THE CHEATIN' HEARTS |
Sneaky Pete concentrated on both his movie and session work only playing live occasionally in the early 1980's and then only locally in the L.A. area except for a tour of Italy with Skip Battin in 1982.
In 1983 Sneaky joined forces with future Desert Rose Band alumni, John Jorgensen, Steve Duncan, Bill Bryson and along with Bob Knight & Kittra Strejan formed "The Cheatin' Hearts" playing on the Hollywood club circuit. The group made a few unreleased recordings including "Take Me To Your Heart", "Taking Chances" & "Since I Gave Up Hope"
Skip Battin recorded a couple of solo albums "Navigator" and "Don't Go Crazy" released by the Italian label Appaloosa in 1981 & 1984 respectively.
In 1982 Skip joined by Sneaky Pete, Chris Darrow & Steve Duncan toured Italy as "The American Country Rock Stars" and during their stay in Italy played on an album by a local singer, Ricky Gianco.
THE PEACESEEKERS |
Gene Parsons had returned to his Northern California base concentrating on his solo career and forming a band to play in the area.
In October 1983 Skip, Gene, Sneaky and another ex Burrito, Ed Ponder started playing together as "Parsons, Battin, Kleinow" on the local Southern Californian club scene and excellent quality tape of their second ever show at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz on October 22nd 1983 shows the band to be under rehearsed but playing quite a diverse set listing including some bluegrass flavoured songs with Gene on banjo. The line up was also quite flexible with Greg Harris joining on occasions and Jim Goodall sitting in on drums.
Eventually in 1984 a more stable unit with Skip, Sneaky, Gene, Greg & Jim emerged using the name "The Peaceseekers" who toured Europe in July / August 1984 along with Roger McGuinn. A typical show from this tour consisted of a set from the band, a longish solo set from McGuinn who was then joined by the band for the final few songs.
THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS |
The remaining four members of the Peaceseekers now started appearing as the Flying Burrito Brothers. The band soon had a new record on the market albeit not a very strong release to re - launch the group. The album "Cabin Fever" released by the New York based Relix label was another live effort from an early 1985 show possibly recorded at the Lone Star Cafe in New York although the sleeve notes don't indicate the location.
Unfortunately the recording quality was not of a high standard and the material mostly consisted of old Burrito standards. However they harked back to Skip's past association with the Byrds by including versions of "Bugler", "Mr Spaceman" & "Hickory Wind", and the only other "new" songs being "Louisiana Man" & Bob Dylan's "She Belongs To Me".

In October & November 1985 the band toured Europe for the first time since 1976 using the original name with shows in France, England, Holland & Germany. The band had always remained very popular with the Dutch fans and it's from this leg of the tour that a further two live albums appeared soon after the tour ended.
The first album titled "Flying Burrito Brothers - Live" came out on the small Dutch label, Marlestone, and was recorded at the "Altstadt" and was certainly better quality than the "Cabin Fever&uqot; release earlier in the year. Overall, one of the better of the many live albums by the band, although still including a couple of early songs "Sin City", "Devil In Disguise" most of the tracks were new to the band catalogue. Greg Harris contributed 4 new songs, "Sitting In A 747", "Help Is On It's Way", "Star Of the Show" & "Come A Little Closer", (studio versions of the last two later appearing on Greg's 1988 album "Things Change"). A couple more songs "Cash On the Barrelhead" & "Roll On Brother" had been covered by Greg on his 1982 "Electric" album and the album closer was a rocking rendition of "Mystery Train". A later CD release of the album appeared with an amended title "Live (At "The Alstadt")" containing the same track listing.

The second album on Relix comes from a radio broadcast before a small audience at the KRO studios in Hilversum, was called "Live From Europe" which duplicates a number of the songs on the above release, albeit different recordings, but does include Gib Guilbeau's "Take A City Bride", Gram Parsons "Blue Eyes" and a couple of Skip's songs "Citizen Kane" & "Don't Go Down The Drain" not on the Marlestone album. In 1997 Relix re-issued the complete radio show on CD reverting to the original order of songs and adding a further five songs not issued on the original LP under the new title of "Live In Amsterdam - 1985".

THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS |
The record "Sneaky Pete, Skip Battin & Ricky Mantoan - Live In Italy" was released in 1986 on the small Italian label Moondance and the twelve songs included a mixture of Byrds, Burritos & solo material including four instrumentals from Sneaky Pete with Ricky Mantoan, (The Italian Byrd) getting to sing on a couple of songs "So You Want To Be A Rock'n'Roll Star" & "Sing Me Back Home".
The band continued touring in the States for the remainder of 1985 and into 1986 and still occasionally joined Gene Clark's Byrds Tribute show. However, the initial momentum of 1984/85 was now gone and with the band performing fewer and fewer shows, Skip Battin left towards the end of 1986 and was replaced on bass by David Vaught but soon afterwards Greg, Sneaky Pete and Jim called it a day and the band just go into limbo without actually breaking up.
